National Fire Authority CEO Puamau Sowane has pleaded with members of the public to take fire safety precautions seriously.

This, after a 42-year-old woman lost her life in a fatal house fire in Rakiraki on Tuesday night.

The woman’s husband and their 13-year-old son managed to escape unscathed.

Mr Sowane says they are saddened by the loss of life.

“We need to be aware of our surroundings and ensure that we do not light fires carelessly. We also need to keep a thorough check on our homes and surroundings for any fire hazards,” he said.

The NFA is conducting its investigations to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the fire victim.
