Ba’s iconic 4R Electric Govind Park is set to officially reopen today following months of redevelopment, with the Minister for Housing and Local Government, Hon. Maciu Nalumisa, confirmed as the chief guest for the occasion.
Ba Town Council special administrator chair Moshim Khan said preparations for the opening have progressed smoothly, with the majority of the work completed on time.
“I can say that 70 percent of the work has been done. We’ve had good weather, and we’ve really received the blessings of the people,” Khan said.
Final touch-ups were carried out late last night and early this morning to ensure the venue was in top shape for the ceremony and the crowd expected to attend.
“We were doing some finishing work last night and this morning. Everything is coming together well,” Khan added.
The formal program is scheduled to begin at 11am, with invited guests, stakeholders, and members of the public expected to witness the official handover of one of the Western Division’s most important sporting venues.
Govind Park has long been a central hub for major sporting events in Ba, and its redevelopment marks a significant milestone for the district.
The upgraded facility is expected to boost not only football and rugby competitions, but also serve as a multi-use venue for other community and national events.
Today’s ceremony is expected to set the tone for future fixtures at the venue, including the opening Skipper Cup match between Ba and Suva this Saturday.
