The wet weather experienced in the country on Saturday did not deter people from going out to celebrate.

In Suva, thousands of people flocked to the Constitution Ave and Albert Park to attend the Vodafone 2Day FM 31/12 New Year’s Eve Street Party.

Nightclubs in town were also crowded.

For the churchgoers, the sermons in all churches were similar.

People were urged to leave their past behind and concentrate on making their spiritual lives better and becoming better people in 2023.

Shreya Kumar, from Lautoka, celebrated new year with her best friend and family for the first time in Suva. She said it would always be one of her most cherished memories.

“The street party was a hit and it was an amazing way to farewell 2022 and greet 2023,” Ms Kumar said.

Torika Cagi Chand from Lautoka said the street party was good. “The ambience was right and we definitely created some amazing memories,” she said.

Vikrant Raj from Navua said after a lapse of four years, they finally got to experience the new year celebrations in a big way.

“We all were looking forward to it,” he said.

“It really lived up to the expectations. What a way to end 2022.”
