New warehouse – Ginger producer and exporter to expand production

NAVUA-BASED Kaiming Agro Pte Ltd, Fiji’s world-renown premier ginger producer and exporter, is now anticipating the development of a new warehouse to support its future growth.

Known as one of the world’s leading suppliers of ginger, Kaiming established in Fiji in 2005 and first produced and exported its Zing Fiji Ginger in 2006.Over the years, it has progressed to become one of Fiji’s key exporters of ginger, tumeric and kava.

It now aims to produce 2000 tonnes of baby ginger annually in the future after the development of a new warehouse, according to Investment Fiji, whose team visited the site on Thursday.

“Kaiming has plans to develop a new warehouse to support its future growth and its targeting to produce 2000 tonnes of baby ginger annually in the future,” Investment Fiji stated.

During the 2023-2024 financial year, the Ministry of Agriculture had injected a grant of $150,000 into the company under the Commercial Agricultural Development Program.

The investment helped it increase its 22 pool storage capacity from 25 tonnes to 40 tonnes, boosting its export capacity to 500 tonnes of mature ginger to the United States during that financial year.

“The company planned to grow the baby ginger market to 3000 tonnes and the mature ginger market to 1200 tonnes,” The Agricultural Ministry stated.

Additionally, ginger juice produced by Kaiming has also become popular in health-conscious markets like Europe where consumer demand has shifted since the coronavirus pandemic.

The company also has plans to introduce ginger-based confectionery products into its market offerings.

Kaiming employs a total of 180 staff, majority of whom are women.
