A LOCAL motor vehicle trading company has noted a decrease in new vehicle sales over the past few months.

Asco Motors acting chief executive officer Ronald Kumar said the decrease in sales was largely because of the slowdown in the economy.

The company yesterday launched its new product — Toyota Rush — at their Nabua showroom.

Mr Kumar said the new vehicle market had been slightly lower in terms of sales compared with the other years, however, with the introduction of the Toyota Rush, they hoped to improve the market share of the company.

“This new product is based on the demand that is currently in the market. Fiji is predominantly an SUV market — a small to midsized market which we have had some challenges competing in,” he said.

Speaking about the newly launched Toyota Rush, Mr Kumar said it was a great vehicle compared with the RAV4.

“It’s cheaper, the seven-seater is definitely a big selling point and obviously it’s very economical vehicle, saves on fuel with a massive amount of safety features.”

He said they had sold some units already with a huge demand for the vehicle from their customers. Retailing at $58,900, the Toyata Rush comes in six different colours, safety features such as a back monitor, led read combination lamp, led headlamps and an emergency stop signal support.

Mr Kumar said with safety being the most important aspect, the Toyota Rush was equipped with multiple airbags.

Mr Kumar said with the environmental factor being a key component of Asco’s business, vehicles such as the Toyota Rush had lower emissions and was Euro 4 compliant.
