New shooters invited to compete

PEOPLE who are interested in shooting can take part in the Viti Archery Tag competition which will take place at the St Joseph’s Secondary School in Suva this Saturday.

The competition is organised by Olympian Robert Elder.

Elder said the competition was part of their development plan.

“We are doing our development which is called the archery tag and it is a fun way of introducing archery to people in the communities,” he said.

“We had a couple of events already in the past. It is going to be a mixture of dodge ball, pink poll and laser tag and it is going to be in one sport known as archery tag”

He said they were trying to get more people into the sport.

“It is a fast-paced sport and we just introduced it at the end of the last year,” he added.

“We get 50 people who come and try archery and from that 50 only 10 like the sport and we send them to the more serious side of archery. If we can get 100 people then most probably 20 would get into the sport.

“I will be attending a masters competition in New Zealand in April and then head to the Vanautu competition in December. We have got development teams which I am coaching. We want more people to come and try the sport.”

The competition will start at 10am.
