New session of Parliament this week

A new session of Parliament starts this morning with the recently appointed Speaker, Filimone Jitoko in the chair.

Eight reports will be tabled in the house today, that includes three reports from the Office of the Auditor General. They are Office of the Auditor-General – Annual Report 2022, Report of the Auditor-General of the Republic of Fiji – Audit Report on Public Enterprises and Other Entities and Report of the Auditor-General of the Republic of Fiji – Audit Report on Municipal Councils.

Ten oral questions are on the order paper, where Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica will be asked to provide answers on how Telecom Fiji’s partnership with New Zealand’s Kordia is progressing in boosting Fiji’s digital connectivity.

Opposition member, Premila Kumar has filed a written question Councils currently run by an Executive Chair, and what is their salary levels and the dates of appointment.

She also wants to know the total expenditure (inclusive of allowance/salary, travel allowances, meals, and accommodation) for Special Administrators and Executive Chairs.
