Residents of Seaqaqa in Vanua Levu now have easier access to books and educational supplies following the official opening of a new bookshop in the area.

The bookshop, located beside Sugar Cane Growers Fund in Seaqaqa, offers a wide range of books, stationery and other learning materials aimed at supporting students, teachers and the wider community.

Owner Mohamed Tauseef Khan said the new business was a way of giving back to the town where he grew up.

“I was schooled here in Seaqaqa before moving to Suva to complete my studies,” he said.

“Opening this bookshop is my way of supporting education and helping our children and schools have better access to learning resources.”

Mr Khan is the son of the late Mohamed Taiyab Khan, a respected businessman who established one of Seaqaqa’s early supermarkets in the 1980s and was well known in the community.

“My father believed strongly in hard work and service to the community.

” This shop is inspired by those values and by his contribution to Seaqaqa.”

Although currently employed with the Fiji Sugar Corporation in the West, he said his heart remained in Seaqaqa and he hoped the bookshop would make a positive difference.

“Education is very important for our future. If we can make books and stationery more accessible here in town, then we are investing in our children and in Seaqaqa’s development.”

The new bookshop is now open to the public and is expected to cater for students, schools and offices across the Seaqaqa area.
