The Ministry of Civil Service has unveiled a new salary band for civil servants that comes into effect from August 1.

The change was announced in the 2024-2025 National Budget by the Minister for Finance, Prof Biman Prasad.

“For all wage earners on bands A to D, the hourly rate will increase by $1.00 across all the steps,” states permanent secretary for Civil Service Ministry Parmesh Chand in a July 12th circular addressed to all permanent secretaries.

The revised and new salary bands are A – $10,774-$15,757, salary band B is $12,255-$18,104, salary band C is $14,006-$20,817 and salary band D is $16,354-$24.492.

“For salary bands E to 0, the current step 1 of the existing salary band has been deleted and thus the current step 2 has become the new step 1. A new step 7 has been introduced across all the bands,” added Mr Chand.

The highest salary band of O now starts at $90,124 and ends at $150,636.

“Effective from 1 August 2024, all civil servants will get a pay increase ranging from 7 per cent to 20 per cent.

“Those civil servants that had their step increment following the Ministry of Civil Service Circular 02/2024 and 05/2024, will have their increased pay continue in the new financial year.

“For clarity, they will not receive an additional pay increase. All the salary adjustments will be facilitated directly by the Ministry of Finance.”

Government will spend almost $85 million in totality for the pay rise of 42,000 civil servants.
