Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu will take his oath of office as President in a ceremony at State House this morning, with the President of China, Xi Jinping sending a congratulatory message to him on his election as President of the Republic of Fiji.
Xi Jinping pointed out that Fiji was the first Pacific Island country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
“Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 49 years ago, China-Fiji relations have made substantial progress, which has enhanced the well-being of the two peoples and promoted peace, stability and development of the region and the world at large,” said Xi Jinping in his message.
Xi Jinping hopes President-elect Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu will promote the sustained, sound and steady development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and bring more benefits to the two peoples
