The new Nakasi Police Station, which houses the Eastern Division headquarters, is now open for operations.
Work began on the site in August 2019 by Yanjian Group (Fiji) Company Ltd and was officially completed on August 22, 2023, according to a press release on the company’s website.
The station comes with a dormitory that could house six families and separate men and women dormitories for the single officers.
The triple-story building also has men’s and women’s cell rooms, a gym, officer’s locker rooms, video interview rooms, viewing rooms, and other rooms to accommodate the different departments which included anti-money laundering, community policing, criminal investigations department, etcetera.
Divisional Police Commander East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Josua Vodo said they were thankful to the Government for its support in allowing the officers to move in upon the completion of the complex.
“We also understand that there’ll be a great expectation on the return on investment as far as service delivery is concerned,” he said.
“We assure the public the issues of service delivery, particularly within the Nakasi area of operations, will be continuously looked into for improved police and community relations.”
While touring the Nadi and Lautoka police stations earlier this year, Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua directed officers to move into the new stations immediately upon the completion of the construction works.
