New men’s champ to be crowned

A NEW men’s champion will lift the winning trophy of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s at Subrail Park this Saturday following the absence of Devo Babas from the competition.

This is after the confirmed list of 32 men’s teams was released and the 2025 champion Babas team.

The 32 teams are split into eight pools of four teams each.

Meanwhile, the Devo Babas have been absent from recent legs of the 2025/26 Fiji Bitter 7s series which started in Ovalau with the Yalovata 7s in late November last year and the Wairiki 7s on Taveuni last month.

Devo won 17-12 over Wardens Gold to win the Labbasa edition of the series in a nail-biting extra-time finale.

The Labasa 7s starts tomorrow.

Men’s pools

Pool A – Service Rugby, BLK Lavidi Brothers, Marist Rugby, Valeni Brothers.

Pool B – Army Green, Nabouwalu Selection, Roots Exile, Clickex Veilomani.

Pool C – Polce Blue, Navunievu Brothers, Lavena Reds, Naulana Rugby.

Pool D – SR Amica, Bainivualiku, Raviravi Warriors, Faith Brothers.

Pool E – Kasabias Village Boys, Bua Babas, Gau Kacau, Mali Sharks.

Pool F – Loloma Heights, Bula Brothers, Cirikalia Rugby, Kinsmen Brothers.

Pool G – VBM Black Heron, Baravi Legion, Pegasus Brothers, Bokobuka.

Ezers back to defend title

FEMININE power will radiate from Subrail Park in Labasa this weekend when the women’s competition of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s gets underway.

Eight teams have locked in their spots in the competition which is building up to be an enticing contest.

Familiar names such as Tagimoucia Ranadi, which lifted the Wairiki 7s women’s trophy last month, and new teams such as Loloma Heights from Urata in Savusavu are making their intentions known with a desire to battle it out on the field.

The defending champions of the women’s tournament in Labasa, the Ezers women’s team will defend their 2025 spoils against the seven other teams over three days.

The Ezers team lifted the trophy last year after a towering 21-10 win over the Tagimoucia Ranadi side.

Women’s pools Pool A – Ezers Womens, Seahawks, Loloma Heights, Lilian Amazons.

Pool B – Tagimoucia Ranadi, Vuna Sisters, Kasabias Sinukakala, Kadavu Stallions.

Contest of champions in youth division

FIVE pools holding 20 teams have made up the Kasabias under-21 competition of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s which starts tomorrow at Subrail Park.

Defending champions Aqua Pro Savuiqali will return to the Babasiga town to stage a contest for the title.

Aqua Pro Savuiqali scooped the winning title last year when they won 15-7 in the cup final over the Nasekula Blues team, also participating this weekend.

The winners of the Wairiki 7s under-21 competition, the Fiji Seasalt Taveuni Selection team, is also on the bill for the Labasa 7s, as they aim to add another winning trophy to their cabinet.

Devo Babas are fielding an U21 team for the tournament, while their senior counterparts will not participate in defending their men’s title.

Other prominent teams in the grassroots rugby U21 scene such as the Kasabias Village Boys and SR Amica will be part of the competition. The tournament ends on Saturday.
