THE 2016 Fiji Sports Awards committee has released a logo for the Inaugural Fiji Sports Awards which will take them into many more years of the awards.
Yesterday, committee chairwoman, Litiana Loabuka said the logo was put together by the three parent sporting bodies in the country that look after the awards — Fiji Sports Council, Fiji National Sports Commission and the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee.
The awards set for February 17 will see 64 sports people being nominated in the 11 different categories.
The categories are sportsman, sportswoman, youth male, youth female, coach, team, technical, administrator, volunteer, photograph and organisation.
Weight-lifting nominated the most with 10 nominees including Manueli Tulo for sportsman and Eileen Cikamatana for sportswoman of the year.
Athletics Fiji nominated two in Leslie Copeland and Sisilia Seavula, Volleyball nominated eight with Antonia Raturoba and Masi Ratuku as their nominees for sportsman and sportswoman respectively.
Fiji Football Association nominated Roy Krishna for the sportsman award, Table Tennis nominated six with Iakoba Taberanibou for sportsman and Merewalesi Roden for sportswoman of the year.
Fiji Paralympic had one nominee where they nominated Epeli Baleibau for the sportsman category, Fiji Rugby nominated seven for the awards and Karate nominated two.
The Fiji Taekwando Federation nominated two, triathlon nominated one, Fiji Swimming nominated three, Special Olympics nominated three as well, Tennis Fiji nominated two while Fiji National Rugby League nominated their CEO for the administrator awards and Caitlin Lyons was nominated by Gymnastic Fiji for volunteer award.
The other award category to make up the 64 is the photograph award.
“All the nominees have been submitted to the panel of judges, there are five who have been working behind the scenes and will remain behind the scenes until the night when we will announce who they are,” Loabuka said.
