After decades of living in uncertainty, 113 families from Cuvu in Nadroga have finally been handed lease offer letters, officially ending their status as an informal settlement.
Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo and Minister for Housing Maciu Nalumisa personally delivered the documents, marking what they described as a new era of security and opportunity.
“For too long, this place has been called the Cuvu Informal Settlement,” Mr Vosarogo said.
“Today, you are informal no more.
“We are not simply handing out documents, we are delivering dignity, security, and a future full of opportunity.
“This is what real, people-centred development looks like.”
The lease offers mean families can now access housing and government grants, build permanent homes, start small businesses, and secure a legal legacy for future generations.
“This land is not just earth beneath your feet, it is your foundation, your legacy, and your pathway to prosperity,” Mr Vosarogo said.
“Build strong homes, educate your children, start something new, and know that this land is not just a gift, it is your responsibility and your legacy.”
