The opening of a new gymnasium at the Ba Provincial Free-bird Institute would now enable the school’s students to grow further in their sporting endeavors.
The facility at the Lautoka-based school opened yesterday in the presence of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) director Mayumi Amaike, Free Bird Institute Ltd director and CEO Hiroshi Taniguchi, teachers and students.
According to Taniguchi, the about $62,000 worth of investment made by the Free Bird Institute Ltd would enable students at the school to further their sporting career.
“We still have to buy some equipments to put inside, however, we acknowledge the support from JICA,” he said.
“It is a facility for our rugby players, athletic students and also players who get injured and would help in their recovery process.”
Taniguchi also revealed in co-operation with JICA, a rugby coach would be arriving from Japan next year and there are plans for rugby referee and physical trainer to be brought from Japan as well.
“We want these students to go one step further.”
Ba Provincial Free-bird Institute vice-principal Litiana Kaloucava said the school has reached another milestone towards the development of sports for their students.
The school’s rugby team also received jerseys courtesy of JICA.
