Students of Yavulo in Nadroga will no longer miss classes as a result of the commissioning of a new foot crossing bridge.

While opening the project, Assistant Rural and Maritime Development Minister Jovesa Vocea said the event marked a vital step towards the ministry’s endeavour to build resilient and inclusive infrastructure across Fiji’s rural and maritime communities.

“The newly-commissioned infrastructure is a pilot project for the ministry’s new Minimum Standard Design for its Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges (CARFF) Programme,” he said.

“This initiative is developed in partnership with funding support of more than $94,000 from the UNDP Pacific through its Governance for Resilient Development in the Pacific (Gov4Res) Programme.”

Mr Vocea said the project sets a new benchmark for safe, durable and climate-resilient infrastructure in rural and maritime areas.

“The structures will ensure improved access to essential services, safer journeys for schoolchildren, mothers and people with disabilities and greater opportunities for economic growth in the community of Yavulo,” he said.
