Up to 100 jobs is expected to be created in the country with the new outlet of a Canadian security company expanding its operation to Fiji.
Metropolitan Security Canada, founded and owned by former Fijian national Abhinash Prasad, launched his new business Metropolitan Security Fiji in Suva last weekend offering international standard of security services.
In an interview, Mr Prasad said between 50 to 100 jobs would be created in the initial phase of the operation, including security officer and administrative staff.
He said as its operations expand and more contracts were secured across the country, they anticipated to create More employment opportunities for local workers.
Mr Prasad said their expansion to Fiji was botah strategic and personal.
He said as a company founded by a Fijian in Canada, it had always been a vision to bring international security standards and professional expertise back to Fiji, and contribute to the country’s growing business, tourism, and events sector.
“We reviewed the local security landscape and found that while the sector is active and important, there is an opportunity to strengthen professional training, operational standards, and career development for security personnel,” Mr Prasad told this newspaper.
“Our aim is to help elevate industry standards through structured training and international best practices.”
At the launch, Mr Prasad said the company would ensure workers were paid a rate higher than the minimum wage, have medical cover, and also support for further education.

Metropolitan Security Fiji is offering site security officers, special event officers, close protection division, concierge security services, and mobile security division.
