The Devo Babas rugby team is in high spirits as they prepare to defend their title at this year’s Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s tournament, which kicks off this week.

Their 15-7 victory over TEMC Warriors in last year’s final at Ganilau Park was a testament to their skill and determination. However, the team is undergoing a significant transition this season, with several players moving on to other teams or shifting their focus to new priorities.

In response, the Devo Babas have welcomed 12 young players who have committed themselves to preparing for the upcoming competition.

The new recruits have already shown promise, reaching the quarterfinals at the Coral Coast 7s, where they proved to be formidable opponents.

The team has now shifted its focus to the challenge ahead in Savusavu.

Team manager Isoa Natui acknowledged the departure of experienced players while highlighting the enthusiasm and talent of the new squad members.

“Our preparations have been progressing smoothly, and the young players are determined to showcase their abilities on the field,” Natui said.

“As defending champions, we see this tournament as a valuable opportunity for the new players to step up and contribute to the team’s success.”

Natui also expressed his gratitude to the team’s sponsor, Jacks of Fiji, for their continued support, which has enabled the Devo Babas to defend their title.

The team thanked their loyal supporters and invited the public to come out and witness their performance in Savusavu.

The competition begins tomorrow and concludes on Saturday.
