Hundreds of people including the Roko Tui Dreketi Ro Teimumu Kepa, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, Deputy PM Manoa Kamikamica, British High Commissioner Brian Jones and other dignitaries witnessed Ratu Epenisa Seru Cakobau being installed as Na Turaga na Vunivalu Tui Kaba on Bau Island yesterday.
In a moving, emotional and colourful ceremony, the island was hushed into silence as he accepted the bilo of yaqona from Roko Tui Bau Timothy Daniel (formerly known as Ratu Timoci Tavanavanua).
Ratu Epenisa, in his first order of business, issued an invitation to the Coalition Government for the first revived Great Council of Chiefs meeting to be held on Bau.
Deputy PM Mr Kamikamica said the State would seriously consider the newly-installed Vunivalu’s offer.
