New engine raises the bar

The new Toyota Global Diesel (GD) Hilux has raised the bar for durability, power, fuel efficiency and reliability taking diesel engines to greater heights.

Asco Motors this week launched the Turbo Diesel Engine Toyota Hilux that offers customers superiority when on the road.

The vehicle comes with an array of features that make it more appealing than its predecessors, particularly in terms of toughness, fuel efficiency and safety.

The exterior of the new GD Hilux has a powerful and stylish look with grille and headlamps combined to give a bold look.

The thick bumper contrasts with the grille and headlamps creates a solid and stable stance when on the road.

The vehicle comes in an array of colours, including attitude black, super white, pearl white, silver metallic, gray metallic, crimson spark red, orange metallic and nebula blue metallic that customers can choose from.

The interior of the Hilux has an audio and video entertainment system that is equipped with AM/FM, CD and DVD entertainment that is ideal for those long trips.

The unit comes with an auxiliary jack for iPod connectivity, bluetooth, a USB port as well as an SD card reader.

It has additional hooks that can be used to hang shopping bags and small items such as hats and umbrella, which is situated at the back of the driver and passenger’s seats. There is also ceiling storage hooks that can be used to hang bags and coats which is provided above the rear seats.

On additional convenience, the DC accessory sockets have been provided under the centre cluster and each are located on driver and passenger’s side.

The rear differential lock system is conveniently located under the centre cluster and this button activates the rear differential lock system that helps to secure traction when driving in muddy terrain (4WD).

The GD series engine has a variable nozzle vane turbo charger, is newly developed, compact and has high performance even in low speed.

It has high efficiency intercooler positioned in front of the radiator and a newly developed radiator core with enhanced cooling performance.

On performance enhancement the GD series engine is quiet with a significant reduction of combustion noise thanks to the precise injection control.

The engine’s fuel system has an electronically controlled high power common-rail injection system and a HP5S supply pump (from HP3) both compact and lightweight.

On driving performance the new GD series engine provides excellent acceleration from take-off as well as offers a smooth response when you accelerate in the mid to high speed range for example during an over-take.

According to Asco Motors, safety of all occupants is paramount and the Hilux offers the latest technology in driver and passenger safety ranging from Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts, Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbags and Anti-lock Braking System) ABS brakes. These safety features are available in mid and deluxe models. Apart from those safety features the new Hilux also features other structural reinforcements that further enhance driver and passenger safety.

According to Asco Motors these engines also happens to be the very first diesel engine which uses thermo swing wall insulation technology which makes the 2.8 litre 1GD -FTV engine one of the most thermally efficient in existence with a maximum thermal efficiency of 44 per cent.

Besides the technical improvement, the diesel engine also eliminates almost 99 per cent of emissions of nitrogen oxide which happens to be one of the main causes of air pollution.

Asco Motors CEO Craig Sims said there was a huge demand for Toyota Hilux in Fiji.

“Asco Motors presold all units from the first shipment with majority from the second batch have been received mid this month, “he said.

“There are only five unsold units which will be available at our Suva showroom.”

Asco Motors will conduct a roadshow today at its Suva New Vehicle Sales carpark where people have an opportunity to test drive the demonstration vehicles.
