Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says the proposed constitutional amendment process will mark the end of the 2013 Constitution, with the resulting document to be known as the 2026 Constitution.
Responding to calls for the complete removal of the 2013 Constitution during public consultations on Constitution Amendment Bill 32, 2026, Mr Rabuka said the distinction between removing, changing or altering the Constitution was essentially the same.
“The definition of removal, change, alter, all the same,” he said.
“So, what happens at the end of the process is that there will be a new Constitution.”
Mr Rabuka said the final document would not be called the “2013 Constitution Amended”, but the 2026 Constitution.
His comments come as the Parliamentary Special Committee gathers public submissions on the proposed amendments, including calls for a complete replacement of the existing constitutional framework.
