Talks are in progress for the establishment of another Sangam College of Nursing campus in the Western Division, in light of significant demand for places at the existing Labasa campus.
TISI Sangam Fiji’s chief executive officer Jai Narayan confirmed that a proposal would be submitted to the national executive board.
“We have a board paper ready to be submitted to our national executive board in the council of management for the establishment of another campus for the College of Nursing in the West,” he said.
“This is because of the huge demand for places in Labasa last year with about 300 people who applied, and were qualified but unfortunately, we can only take 125.”
Mr Narayan noted that the high demand led to all 125 places taken up by students from Vanua Levu.
“The rest were unable, and none of the Viti Levu students could be enrolled at the College of Nursing in Labasa.”
He said the investment required for the new campus is substantial.
“We have already got the building but setting up with the equipment and the furniture and the staff and all those things will cost around $700,000 just to establish it.”
Mr Narayan said the proposed site in the West is yet to be confirmed as the plan requires executive approval before moving forward.
“We can’t confirm yet, it’s just a board paper. Once the executives agree, then it will materialise, and we are looking at 70 to 80 students at the beginning of the establishment.”
