The New Caledonia women’s football team is ready to take on the Pacific’s best in the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2022 at the HFC Bank Stadium at Laucala Bay.
Coach Michel Berbeche said they had settled in well in Fiji. “We are doing well in camp,” said Berbeche.
“The weather is hot and a bit more humid than what we are used to but it is good to be here in Fiji.”
The New Caledonian team is made of young women from New Caledonia and France whose ages range between 17-28 years of age.
“For two years, there were no competitions because of COVID-19, so this is a good way to test these players. This competition is good for the betterment of the sport in the region. Majority of our players live in New Caledonia while three are from France.
“Other players from France were unavailable because of work and the schedules of the European club competitions making it difficult for them to come and play for us.”
The team plays its first match of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup against Solomon Islands next Monday at 7pm.
