The Rewa Trips second club bowling competition kicked off with new players showing their skills on the greens of the Suva Bowling Club on the weekend.

Club assistant manager Astral Smith said the new players stood out during the competition.

“This is the second club game to take place this year and the talents coming through from our new bowlers are starting to show,” she said.

“Alsace Smith, a new club bowler who joined the sport through the business house bowls competition celebrated his first win.

“He teamed up with former Fiji rep Semesa Naiseruvati and long-time bowler Nicholas Thaggard. The trio drew in the first round but won their second two with high margins to gain first place.

“Aisea Tuamoto, another new bowler who joined through business house bowls came in second place by teaming up with Joape Ravula and Waisea Turaga.

“This week’s competition will see a bigger variety of talent in the mixed triples competition.”

Smith said despite the COVID-19 pandemic, they hoped to host their local tournaments and get in young players to elevate the standard of the sport.

“This year we hope to play all calendar events.

“Due to the pandemic and restrictions, we were unable to play our club competitions and our members and bowlers missed out on playing club fours and club trips.

“This year, the games committee wishes to get in our club games early to prepare our bowlers for national competitions throughout the year.”
