NEWLY appointed Fiji National Men’s Football team head coach Stéphane Auvray believes there’s a lot to be done as he takes on role.
The former Guadeloupe football captain was officially announced as the new head coach yesterday by the Fiji Football Association.
The head coach position was left vacant in July after former mentor Rob Sherman departed Fiji FA with two years remaining in his three-year contract.
“Very pleased to be here. I’m very thankful as well because I believe there’s a lot to be done,” new coach Auvray stated.
With the OFC Professional League coming up in 2026, the Frenchman welcomed the opportunity of elevating our players to the next level.
“We have the opportunity to help our players to have more competitive games through the professional league which will then positively impact the national team. The more games we have, especially in this region, the better because your players will improve and likewise the overall environment.”
Auvray brings a wealth of experience to the role having worked as a FIFA talent coach in Saint Lucia and Jamaica where he played a key role in establishing high performance centres and training young talents.
The 44-year-old former professional midfielder’s career spanned clubs across several leagues, including Major League Soccer’s Kansas City Wizards and Brunei DPMM FC in the Singapore Premier League.
“I thank the Fiji FA, the president and its members for giving me the opportunity to hopefully make a big difference in the years to come.
“It is not always easy, but I hope I can contribute to Fiji Football, and we can accomplish great things in the years to come.”
