Improving the current conditions of the Public Rental Board flats and providing affordable housing to the public is a priority for the newly appointed board members of PRB.
Board chairman Isikeli Navuda yesterday said there were about 6000 families who were in need of affordable housing and their task was to bring that number down.
He said these people were living in the squatter settlements along the Suva-Nausori corridor and the PRB would work with stakeholders to provide housing for these people.
“This is not an easy task and we will need funding and support from all stakeholders,” he said.
“But with support from government, the PRB staff and the board members we should be able to continue to deliver affordable housing to the people,” he said.
The team was also briefed by the PRB on disciplinary issues at the PRB flats.
“The team has been working hard to resolve these issues and we would ensure that discipline is maintained.”
The newly appointed board members were welcomed by the PRB staff members at their Raiwaqa office yesterday.
Mr Navuda was accompanied by his fellow board members Asenaca Nawaqalevu, Lanieta Rokotuiwakaya, Daiana Buresova and Ana Naivou.
