Fiji’s emergency response services have been significantly strengthened following the commissioning of six new ambulances, aimed at improving lifesaving operations and ensuring faster assistance to communities in times of crisis.
Minister for Housing and Local Government Maciu Nalumisa officiated at the handover ceremony on Wednesday, highlighting Government’s continued commitment to building a safer and more resilient nation.
“Response systems are essential to building resilient communities and a safer nation,” Mr Nalumisa said.
The new ambulances are expected to enhance the operational capacity of the National Fire Authority Fiji, particularly in delivering timely emergency care and reaching remote areas more efficiently.
Mr Nalumisa reaffirmed Government’s partnership with the authority, noting that investment in resources, training, and infrastructure remains a top priority.
“We will continue to work closely with the National Fire Authority to ensure that our firefighters and paramedics are provided with the resources, training and infrastructure necessary to carry out their duties effectively.”
He also paid tribute to the dedication of frontline personnel who serve under often challenging and dangerous conditions.
“I would like to commend the leadership of the National Fire Authority, as well as the dedicated firefighters and paramedics who continue to serve the people of Fiji with commitment, professionalism and courage.
“Your work often takes place under challenging and dangerous conditions, yet you remain steadfast in your duty to protect and serve our communities.”
He said the commissioning marks another milestone in strengthening Fiji’s emergency services network.
“Today’s commissioning represents another important step forward in strengthening Fiji’s emergency response capability and ensuring that help reaches those in need when it matters most.”
