The Northern Primary School Netball Tournament had a great turn-out last week at the Bethel Primary School in Labasa.
Young budding netball enthusiasts came out in numbers for this year’s meet. Such competition not only helps children with their endurance and strength, it also helps them form new friendships with other players who share the same interests.
It is a fast-paced and intensive sport that improves muscle strength, stamina, eye-coordination, develops depth perception and increases reaction time.
The sport has produced some good athletes who have represented Fiji in international matches.
The First Lady, Filomena Katonivere, was the chief guest at the tournament.
While speaking to the participants, Mrs Katonivere shared about the importance of playing sports and staying fit.
“Sports play an important role in a stable mental health,” she said.
“It exposes our children to many important life lessons and teaches discipline, being focused, dedication, hard work, commitment, and teamwork.”
She highlighted that any sports like academic education was equally important in any child’s life. Districts from around the north were well represented during the tournament.
