After months of internal disputes and leadership challenges, Netball Fiji has launched a major project to review and rewrite its constitution in a move seen as a direct response to growing pressure from its member associations.
The project which was launched on July 19, is aimed at strengthening the sport’s leadership structure and ensuring the organisation is better equipped for the future.
The move follows a turbulent first half of 2025, where 15 of Netball Fiji’s 19 associations moved a motion of no confidence against the executive committee and walked out of a Special General Meeting in protest.
Netball Fiji president RubyAnn Sorovaki said the project was vital for the sport’s future.
“This project reflects Netball Fiji’s commitment to having stronger structures in place that support the sport across all levels today and in the future,” she said.
The reform work is being supported by a Strategic Development Fund grant from World Netball, one of only five awarded globally in 2024 to support constitutional reform.
Netball Fiji partnered with the Fiji National Sports Commission and appointed former Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster as project consultant.
An orientation meeting was done last Saturday where all association presidents were invited, including those who had previously voiced dissatisfaction with leadership.
A Constitutional Review Working Group was formed during the meeting.
It includes representatives Suva, Nasinu, Lautoka, Tailevu, Nadroga, Bua, Fiji Secondary Schools, as well as Executive Committee members.
FNSC CEO Peter Mazey will serve as an independent advisor.
