NETBALL Fiji is looking to strengthen its local coaching and support network as it continues to develop players for international competition.
Head coach Michelle Parsons said an expression-of-interest process was underway to recruit coaches, strength and conditioning staff and team management personnel.
The initiative is intended to give local personnel opportunities to learn within a high-performance environment while contributing to the development of national players.
The coach said practical involvement in training sessions would be more beneficial than relying only on classroom workshops.
At the latest session, four coaches attended to observe the programme and learn more about the training methods being used.
The coach welcomed their involvement, saying it was important for local coaches to understand the environment, ask questions and gain practical experience.
“We want to really invest in our local environment,” Parsons said.
The programme is part of a wider effort to develop more players with international experience and build a stronger foundation for future campaigns.
The coach said developing the national team would require more than preparing players for upcoming matches.
It also meant building the local knowledge and support systems needed to sustain high-performance netball.
With the team preparing for its November tournament, the coach hopes the programme will help strengthen both the players and the wider netball environment.
