Netball Fiji recorded an overwhelming response during last week’s national trials, with strong numbers turning up across all divisions to impress Fiji Pearls head coach and national selectors.
The Western Division trials kicked off at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, where more than 120 girls turned up, showing strong interest. The session was hosted by the Nadroga Netball Association, with officials welcoming the head coach to the province.
In Lautoka, more than 90 players braved the heat to attend trials, highlighting the growing passion for the sport in the west. Special appreciation was extended to Dorothy Prasad for hosting the head coach Michelle Parsons and ensuring the program ran smoothly.
The Northern Division also delivered with over 80 players turning up in Savusavu and putting in strong performances throughout the day.
Last weekend, attention shifted to Suva for the Central and Eastern division trials, where an impressive 180 players attended, including a large number of Fiji Secondary Schools representatives.
In a surprise visit, Netball Fiji was also invited to attend the trials hosted by the Fiji Western Muslim Women’s Sports Council. Parsons said it was an honour to witness the strong turnout and passion from young players.
“It was inspiring to see so many girls turning up and showing their love for the game,” she said.
Parsons acknowledged the strong turnout and the warm welcome she received across the country, noting the level of talent and commitment shown by players in all divisions.
The nationwide trials now set the foundation for the selection of the Fiji Pearls squad and development teams.
