On his first visit to the Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Temple in Nadi last Wednesday, India’s Minister for External Affairs Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar was told of the operations of the TISI Sangam.
Sri Siva Subramaniya Swami Devasthanam board member Dr Dorsami Naidu said as a Hindu, Dr Jaishankar had come to offer prayers at the Hindu temple.
“We requested for more liaison regarding the cultural part of the Indian diaspora in promoting the aims and objectives of TISI Sangam,” he said.
Dr Naidu said a core part of their aim was to promote the retention of the language, cultural and religious heritage along with education. “We told them about our TISI nursing schools.
“In our primary and secondary schools, we teach Hindi and South Indian languages Tamil and Telugu language as well.”
He highlighted there was a need for assistance regarding Tamil and Telegu language teachers at basic and primary level.
“In this regard, there has been a positive response and discussions with the Indian External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.”
