The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) has begun prepping for the upcoming cyclone season.
NDMO director Vasiti Soko said a large part of preparedness focused on ensuring evacuation centres across all divisions were able to sustain members of the public.
“With the evacuation centres, it’s part of our disaster preparedness and the commissioners have also mobilised people on the ground to conduct evacuation center checks,” Ms Soko said.
“As we speak, the district officers are currently doing that.
“The data that will come out of that evacuation centre check will inform us on the evacuation centres that need additional support, those who have accessibility for the disabled et cetera.
“That will give us information up front before we mobilise any assistance from the ground.”
She said data gathered from the visits would be collated and deliberated upon by the end of this month.
