MAJOR investments in airport infrastructure development in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East region valued at $US240 billion (approx. $F548b) over the next 10 years is an encouraging signal for the future of the aviation industry in the region.

Fiji Airports CEO Mesake Nawari said this regional investment strategy by ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East aligned with Fiji Airports’ commitment to modernising aviation infrastructure, enhancing operational efficiency and improving passenger experience.

He said through the Nadi International Airport Master Plan, significant upgrades and expansions would be undertaken across key areas including terminal facilities, airside capacity, sustainability initiatives and digital innovation.

“This is a period of transformation not only for Fiji Airports but for the wider region,” Mr Nawari told The Fiji Times yesterday.

“We look forward to working closely with our stakeholders, government partners and international stakeholders as we contribute to shaping the future of aviation in the Blue Pacific and beyond.”

Fiji Airports had earlier announced a number of projects in the pipeline as part of the Nadi International Airport Master Plan 2024-2033.

This includes upgrading existing facilities and infrastructure, construction of new gates, as well as extension and construction of new car parking lots and new aerobridges to replace the existing passenger boarding tunnels.

The plan also includes the implementation of the fleet replacement plan with the delivery of the first lot of 14 electrical vehicles (EVs) for Nadi International Airport last year, departure lounge extension, additional off gate aprons, new gates and domestic apron extension.

Also in progress as part of this exciting master plan is the Photovoltaic solar – ground mount array solar farm, computerised tomography scan (CTS) technology, common use self-service, terminal equipment and flight information display system upgrade of the communication, navigation and surveillance systems.

Mr Nawari said improving the aviation rescue and firefighting services facilities also formed part of this upgrade.

ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) had announced the combined investments of $US240 billion between 2025-2035 to upgrade and build new airports.
