FRESH’ET Navy rugby team is determined to go one step further in the FMF Suva Rugby Escott Shield this year after finishing as runners-up for the past three seasons.

Head coach Kaminieli Neiqisa expressed confidence in his team after their 34-18 victory over Eastern Saints in round three of the competition at Buckhurst Park in Suva last Saturday.

“Our aim this year is to win the Escott Shield. We’ve come close in the last three years, and now it’s time to get over the line,” Neiqisa said.

While the team is on a mission, Neiqisa acknowledges the challenges they face.

Several senior players are unavailable due to peacekeeping duties and studies overseas, leaving vacancies in key positions.

“Despite the setbacks, we are focused on building strong combinations and executing our set pieces effectively. It’s about getting our structures right and ensuring the team gels well,” he said.

Neiqisa also highlighted Fresh’et Navy’s role in developing talent for higher levels of rugby.

“We want our players to progress from here to the Suva team, then to the Flying Fijians and eventually securing overseas contracts,” he said.

The coach stressed the importance of patience in their campaign.

“Don’t rush the process but trust the process.”

With a clear vision and a determined squad, Fresh’et Navy remains a strong contender for the Escott Shield as they prepare for the next round.
