Cabinet has agreed for Navua to be officially declared a town in the early part of the 2026/2027 financial year.

In a statement, Government said the declaration recognises Navua’s rapid growth as a key commercial and administrative centre.

The move is expected to support improved governance, urban planning and the delivery of services to residents and businesses in the area.

Government said the transition to town status will be supported through interim administrative arrangements, the development of a Town Planning Scheme, and funding for infrastructure and essential services.

The declaration is also aimed at strengthening Navua’s role in Fiji’s economic development as it continues to expand.
