Naval vessel ‘RFNS Kacau’ commissioned

THE RFNS Kacau was commissioned at Stanley Brown Naval Base in Walu Bay, Suva this morning.

Republic of the Fiji Military Forces Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto said it was a significant asset from the Chinese Government donated to the Fiji Navy hydrographic department.

The fully equipped catamaran vessel would be used for conducting hydrographic survey and maritime surveillance with the capacity to carry around 32 crew members.

Meanwhile the event was also attended by Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho, Minister for Defence and National Security Inia Seruiratu.

Chinese Government officials that wished remain unknown said technical training is currently underway by their officials on the features of the vessel.

When questioned on the cost of the vessel, they said it was best answered by the Fijian Government.
