First phase of the wharf upgrade for the RFNS Stanley Brown Base in Suva was completed this week.
The first phase of the naval base wharf upgrade comprised of the jetty piles being installed. According to the Republic of Fiji Navy, the second phase is expected to be completed in December.
“The completion of the first phase also sees the departure of the Australian jetty piling crew onboard PMG Emerald at the end of this week,” the RFN highlighted.
“The vessel and crew were essential as they brought the necessary equipment and expertise in order to complete this important phase of the project which was temporarily halted due to the second wave of COVID-19 impacting the base five months ago.”
The Fiji Navy highlighted that it was grateful to the Australian Defence Forces and the Australian Government for its continuous support in enhancing Fiji’s maritime security and stimulating economy activity in Fiji as it looks forward to the completion of the project.
