When The Fiji Times first spoke to rover Mosese Naura at the 2025 McDonald’s Fiji’s Coral Coast 7s, he relayed his plans of donning the white jumper in the future.
“I’m not in the Fiji 7s extended squad yet but I know I’m so close to it. God knows what the future holds for me and only time will tell,” he declared at the time.
Earlier this week, Naura was part of the extended training squad at Bidesi Park in Laucala Bay, Suva.
He did not anticipate his inclusion into the national side and acknowledged divine guidance as a key factor in it.
“I would like to thank the Lord for it, it was something I did not plan for, and I wouldn’t have made it into the team if it wasn’t for his guidance,” the Nanoko, Navosa speedster shared.
Naura’s performance at the Coral Coast 7s where he left his Fijian Drua 7s opponents in the dust, caught the eye of head coach Osea Kolinisau.
The head coach shared how Naura was getting acquainted with his new teammates and lent him advice.
“We have Mojee (Mosese) now. Very raw, and when I say very raw — he’s got a lot of speed and we’re working on him jelling in with the boys on our defensive pattern,” Kolinisau mentioned.
“We’re trying to get him to talk a lot more. He’s very shy and I’m telling him “Moji, in this environment you have got to learn how to talk and if you want to be in the squad, you want to gel in that way.””
Former Fiji 7s player Semi “The Beast” Kunatani spoke of the potential present within his Seattle Barbarians teammate.
“This is his year (and) if he is not chosen then Fiji will lose such a unique talent because he has every trait that is required of a sevens player,” Kunatani remarked.
Only time will surely tell if coach Kolinisau has deemed him worthy of the jumper when he names his final team for the Vancouver 7s next weekend.
