THE Lautoka Golf Club is committed to educating promising golfers to improve their skills and take up the sport.
National rep Roneel Prakash has taken a forward step in guiding youngsters every weekend through golfing lessons.
The Lautoka school teacher will again conduct lessons to aspiring golfers before the tournament proper this afternoon.
“This is an opportune time not only for the Lautoka Golf Club but other golf clubs around the country to promote and engage youngsters between 6-12 years for an early golf education,” said Prakash.
“Once they start at an early age they will surely adapt easily to the rules and if have a good chances of becoming future national reps.
“A very good example was former New Zealand amateur champion Lydia Ko who turned professional at the age of 17 years and is s now the world number one in women golf.
“Likewise we can produce many top golfers provided we are committed with grassroot development.”
Prakash has called on aspiring golfers in Lautoka to attend free lessons every Saturday.
Meanwhile, the club will be host the President’s trophy Two Men Ambrose and the Chinese Restaurant-sponsored Open Four Men Ambrose on Sunday.
As usual young golfers are expected to turn up in huge numbers.
