NATIONAL reps Jone Davule and Aminiasi Saratibau both won Golds in their respective categories at the Ratu Skuna Bowl boxing finals yesterday at the Police Academy Gym in Nasese.

Jone Davule won the Police teams first boxing gold medal with a second-round stoppage against his Army opponent Savenaca Buka in their finals of their 55-60Kg bout.

Buka started the match strongly scoring a knock-down against his vastly experienced opponent in the first round.

But Davule showed his class and stopped Buka in the second round.

“The last time I fought in the Sukuna Bowl was in 2016, so it’s been nine years, and I dedicate this win to all the officers out there doing our job. I also dedicate this win to all our fallen officers and their families,” said Davule.

Army’s Aminiasi Saratibau continued his knockout streak of his local opponents stopping Army teammate Meli Nailulu in their 70-75Kg final.

Saratibau said he had to hold back against his teammate in the final.

“It was a good fight I’m happy I won the gold, but I didn’t felt competitive because it was against one of my brothers, so I just had to step down a bit, but I am happy I got the gold,” said Saratibau.

After this win Saratibau will prepare for the upcoming Golden Gloves Championships and the Commonwealth Games next year.
