FORMER national 7s winger Amenoni Nasilasila turned out for Yaro Chiefs 7s team in the Wadigi 7s tournament yesterday at Nadovu Park in Lautoka where he delivered an outstanding performance.
The Namatakula villager who was unable to play for Malolo in the Skipper Cup final against Naitasiri due to the Competition regulations, enjoyed a strong outing with the Yaro Chiefs helping them win all their pool matches.
The Wadigi tournament featured both rugby 7s and women’s netball.
Tournament coordinator Paul Batina said the main aim of the one- day event was to provide opportunities for players and promote drug awareness among youths.
“We have two objectives for this tournament, one is to give players who missed out in the 15s rugby competition a chance to showcase their skills in 7s.
“Another is to raise awareness on drug issues by involving youths of the Yavusa Na Koi Vuda in sports activities rather than turning to drugs,” Batina said.
A total of 32 teams participated in rugby 7s, while eight teams competed in netball.
The rugby champions walked away with $5000 while runners up received $1000 and $700 for all the semi-finalists.
