Former Fiji 7s player Amenoni Nasilasila is now a free man.

Nasilasila was released from incarceration after serving the six-year non-parole period of his eight-year sentence.

He was welcomed by his family and extended relatives in his village of Namatakula in Nadroga yesterday.

In widely circulated images on social media, Nasilasila could be seen being garlanded by relatives, having what may have been his first bowl of grog since being released and having traditional ceremonies of welcome accorded to him.

Nasilasila was sentenced to eight years imprisonment in October 2019 by High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar following his conviction for the rape of a United States-based Fijian flight attendant in Olosara, Sigatoka on December 22, 2018.
