THE Naqarani Rugby Club has started the season on a high with two wins from two in the FMF Suva Rugby Union Escott Shield competition.

Following a 28-15 win over Draunibau in round one, Naqarani has backed it up with a 21-9 thrashing of the Central Brothers yesterday.

Team manager Isimeli Radrodro shared the team’s broader goal through the sport of rugby.

“This team is made up of very young boys, this is a community-based team aiming to give youths a platform to engage in sports and pull away from criminal activities,” he said.

The Kinoya Koro-based team has been making significant strides since joining the competition three years ago.

“Since joining the competition three years ago, we have seen a major shift in attitude and the lifestyle of the boys. They serve a purpose now and it is taking them places they’ve seen before,” he added.

Competition wise, the team aims to come out on top of their group stages.

“We are taking each game as it comes because we are anticipating ending the pool stages on a high and make the quarter-finals. Each game is a final for us.

“Our defence is our major work-on, we have to improve on this before facing the QVS OB next week. We saw how dominant they were in their match, but we are treating each game as a final,” Radrodro said.
