Namosi aims to step up

THE Namosi Rugby team is planning to do one better than last year as they prepare to start the 2015 Skipper Cup season.

The team has been preparing for some months now and know what it takes to play at provincial level week in and week out.

After having a mixed campaign last year, the side has roped in Timoci Wainiqolo as full-time coach, Sailosi Naitege and Fereti Verebula into their coaching line-up to bolster their campaign this year.

The team stuck with majority of the players from last year and are hoping that senior players in the team will take charge of the younger ones.

The side takes on Tailevu in a warm-up match at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

The side beat Tailevu last season but knows the table could be turned easily if they don’t bring their A game on the day.

The Tailevu side, which roped in Epeli Ruivadra and Jope Tuikape into their coaching staff, will provide a sterner challenge even if it’s a warm-up match.

Last year Namosi took defending champions Nadroga to the wire losing 18-17 at Thomson Park in Navua and later lost to Suva in a close affair 11-3.

The game kicks off at 3pm on Saturday and a bumper crowd is expected to be present in support of the two teams.
