Villagers in Nakasaleka, Kadavu, recently built a new 20-feet crossing at Koronawa Village, using their own resources.
Chairman of the development committee, Mosese Tuilau, told this newspaper that youths from Koronawa, Nakaugasele, Lomanikoro and Kaunakoro rallied to complete the project.
“Requests for assistance have been made for years but nothing happened,” he said.
“They have pine so it was decided that the youths help build this hanging bridge.
“This bridge directly connects these villagers to the Nakasaleka circuit’s Methodist church.
“So we named the bridge ‘Duavata’ which means togetherness.
“I would like to thank the youths for helping build the bridge — also Peni Naidike and Inoke Bolaira who were the two main people who initiated the building of this hanging bridge.”
Mr Tuilau commended the villagers for their spirit in working together.
