Flying Fijians and Olympian Leone Nakarawa has been given time off to spend with his family and new baby by his club Glasgow Warriors.
Despite the English Premiership starting last week and Glasgow among the top clubs, Nakarawa’s coach Danny Wilson said the lanky off-load master was expected to join his teammates soon.
Because of the international COVID-19 travel restrictions Nakarawa missed last week’s opening and also this weekend’s round at Murrayfield after being given permission to remain in Fiji on parental leave, after the birth of his first child.
“The first flight out of Fiji was this week because flights have been locked down in Fiji, so we are in the process of getting him back,” Wilson told Rugby Pass.
He confirmed that Nakarawa would not be available for Saturday’s encounter or the second part of the double header six days later.
“What happened with Leone, his wife was due at the end of July. He has been in Fiji and we gave him that grace to spend a little bit of extra time with his family, his wife and their first baby.
“With all these boys, they have to have the relevant time to return to rugby to be safe.
I don’t foresee any issues. For the right reasons, we have given that grace like you would do with anybody to spend time with your family when needed during these milestone events.”
