“IT was now or never,” said Tavua FC captain Savenaca Nakalevu, recalling the moment he struck the winning goal that sealed Tavua’s 1–0 victory over Nasinu FC in the 2025 FMF Inter-District Championship Premier Division final yesterday.
After a tense 0–0 deadlock at full time, Tavua lifted their intensity in extra time, and it was Nakalevu who broke the silence with a composed finish in the first half of the added spell a goal that crowned Tavua the new IDC champions.
An emotional Nakalevu dedicated the victory to his wife, who has left the country to serve as a missionary in Vanuatu.
“I want to dedicate this win to my wife who has gone to Vanuatu to serve as a missionary,” he said.
Coach Timoci Seru praised his side’s fighting spirit, saying faith and teamwork carried them through.
“I thank God and the boys for the effort. At full time I asked them, ‘Do you want to win or not?’ and they worked hard till the end,” Seru said.
