Naitasiri gave veteran hooker Seremaia Naureure a winning farewell after they beat Tailevu 35-19 at the Nakelo Ground in Tailevu yesterday.

Naureure spent 14 years playing for Nadroga before joining his provincial home team Naitasiri until his last game yesterday.

The victory keeps Naitasiri’s winning run in the Skipper Cup competition intact – scoring four wins from as many games.

The side has defeated rugby giants Namosi, Suva and Nadroga – all double header matches of the Skipper and Inkk Farebrother Trophy challenge.

Naitasiri captain Sireli Kaloucava said a win was a must for the side after they were beaten at the Nakelo Ground a couple of years ago.

“A win is good but there are a few things that we have to work on,” he said.

“We have a one-week break before we take on Rewa and we are grateful that we will work on our weakness.

“I thank the boys for their hard work, we had a couple of passes and our lineouts that we need to work on but other than that the boys played their hearts out.”

Naitasiri led 17-5 in the first half.

The ‘Highlanders’ scored two tries and were awarded a penalty try after Tailevu disrupted a scrum. Tailevu’s lone try was scored by Ravuama Laulauvaki.

In the second half, Naitasiri came in strong with a try to Vatili Vosawale and the conversion was unsuccessful. Two tries from Tailevu was not enough to give them a win.

Kaloucava and vice-captain Filimoni Waqainabete both led their warriors to battle confidently.

Meanwhile, Rewa and Nadroga played to a 28-all draw at the Burebasaga District School ground yesterday.
