It was the stuff of legends as Fiji Bati exponent Kevin Naiqama, in his swansong, led his St Helens club to a 12-10 win over Catalans in the Super League grand final at
Old Trafford yesterday.

Naiqama starred in his final appearance for the club with two tries including the match winner and was emotional at the final whistle.

“I am just so overwhelmed with emotion,” Naiqama said.

“This moment, these boys, I love this group I love this team.”

Naiqama said although he now heads back home to Australia after finishing a three-year tenure with St Helens he was pondering a notion to hang up the boots but might pick up an offer if a National Rugby League club called him.

“If that call came I wouldn’t put the phone down and would explore that but it will probably be my last game, “I think it’s retirement.

“If I was going to play I’d have loved to stay but outside circumstances with my wife and my family has led to this decision to go back home. You couldn’t write a better fairytale. It was a difficult decision because I’ve loved my time here.

“They’ve provided a great support network for me and my wife.

“I’m definitely going to miss this team, the coaches and fans. I’ve really enjoyed my stay here and I think they’ve done more for me that I’ve done for them.”
